| After a distinguished 54-year career in the fire service, with most of those years spent as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), retired Fire Chief Duane Seltzer, who served as chief for over 40 years, continues to demonstrate outstanding dedication, commitment, and passion for service. Though officially retired from active duty, Chief Seltzer remains devoted to the community and the profession, voluntarily spending his time educating and inspiring the next generation of first responders.
Each week, Chief Seltzer returns to the fire station, not as a duty-bound leader, but as a mentor, teacher, and guide. His commitment to sharing knowledge and developing skills stands out. Last night was no exception, as Chief Seltzer led a session focused on different rescue techniques and fundamental ropes and rigging skills.
"While some may choose to hang up their helmets and walk away after retirement, Chief Seltzer continues to embody the spirit of service," said a colleague and mentee. "His dedication to learning new methods and revisiting traditional tactics is truly admirable."
